Ten Important Facts Of Jagannath Rath Yatra 2020
1. Lord Vishnu, the follower of the earth, incarnated in Puri as Purushottam Neelamadhav. Being the favored deity of the Sabar tribe, Lord Jagannath's form is tribal.
2. In the context of this Rath Yatra it is said that the people of Puri consider Lord Jagannath as their king and themselves as subjects. For this reason, Lord Jagannath rides on a chariot and goes out of his abode once a year to know the condition of his subjects. They know their happiness and sorrow.
3. Three special chariots are made for this Rath Yatra, on which first Balarama, second is Subhadra and third is Lord Jagannath. These chariots are identified by color and height.
4. The name of Lord Jagannath's chariot is Nandighosh, which consists of 16 wheels. It is also known as 'Garudhawaj'. The flag on this chariot is called Trilokyamohini. This chariot is 45.6 feet high, which is covered with red and yellow cloth. The charioteer of Lord Jagannath is named Matali.
5. The name of Lord Jagannath's brother Balaram's chariot is Taladhwaja, which is 45 feet high, consisting of 14 wheels. It is covered with red and green cloth. The name of Balarama's charioteer is Sanyaki.
6. The name of Lord Jagannath's sister Subhadra's chariot is Darpadalan, which is 44.6 feet high and consists of 12 wheels. It is covered with red and black cloth. The charioteer of Goddess Subhadra is named Arjuna.
7. These three chariots are made from Neem wood, they are called Daru. Nail or any metal is not used in the construction of the chariot. The selection of Neem wood starts from Basant Panchami and the chariot construction begins with Akshaya Tritiya.
8. The process of bringing the three idols out of the shrine on the day of the Rath Yatra is called Pahandi Bije. After this, all three chariots are ridden by law. Devotees pull these chariots with thick ropes.

9. The Rath Yatra started from Sri Mandir reaches Gundicha Temple, home of Lord Jagannath's aunt. God rests here for 7 days. There is a lot of respect for these three. They are offered various types of delicious dishes. Then they return to their abode Shrimandir with brother and sister. This return journey is called Bahuda Yatra.
10. This Rath Yatra starts from Srimandir and goes to Gundicha Temple, hence it is also known as Gundicha Festival.
